EGBA Highlights Achievements and Future Plans in Responsible Gambling and Regulation

EGBA Celebrates Achievements in Responsible Gambling and Membership Growth

  • The EGBA celebrates the successful adoption of Responsible Gambling (RG) tools, with 65% of consumers making use of these resources.
  • The association has welcomed three influential new members into its fold.
  • EGBA continues to make strides in player protection and anti-money laundering initiatives.

The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has released its Annual Activity Report, highlighting several core accomplishments achieved over recent months. These include the addition of new members and other significant milestones.

EGBA Applauds Growing Interest in Responsible Gambling Tools and Safer Play

EGBA’s Secretary-General, Maarten Haijer, presented the report, emphasizing the increasing utilization of safer gambling tools by European consumers, as noted in the 2024 Annual Sustainability Report. An impressive 65% of the customer base, equating to approximately 21 million individuals, have engaged with these tools, marking a record achievement.

Haijer remarked, ‘It was a remarkable year for EGBA: our membership grew, we executed a record-breaking European Safer Gambling Week that reached over 3 million citizens with messages promoting safety, and we contributed to numerous significant policy discussions.’

EGBA’s members dispatched more than 67 million messages to customers to promote safer play, underscoring the sector’s dedication to fostering education and awareness around responsible gambling. The association also focused on the European Safer Gambling Week, which expanded to 26 countries and involved 195 stakeholders, including eight national gambling authorities.

The campaign successfully reached 3 million people in target markets and facilitated 20 events with 4,500 participants. EGBA commended recent regulatory developments in Europe, noting Finland’s plan to transition to a multi-licensing model, which the association believes is a step in the right direction.

Monopolistic approaches have struggled to adequately protect consumers and reduce the influence of black-market activities, which is why markets with multiple licenses generally perform better in critical areas of the gambling industry.

Priorities Include Enhancing Regulation, Strengthening the Online Market, and Combating Crime

Additionally, EGBA has been actively progressing its anti-money laundering efforts, organizing various workshops to bolster understanding of the issue and explore ways the industry can combat such criminal activities.

Members of EGBA achieved a 15% growth in their online gross gaming revenue, reaching EUR 13.5 billion in 2024, with casino games accounting for 51% of the total revenue.

The association also celebrated the addition of new members, including identity verification specialist Sumsub, Superbet Group, and LeoVegas Group, further strengthening its ranks.
