GamCare’s New Leadership

GamCare has recently made a significant leadership change by appointing Victoria Corbishley as the new Chief Executive Officer. Corbishley, a seasoned professional with a rich background, has previously held influential positions at the British Red Cross and possesses extensive experience in healthcare transformation and service delivery.
In an official announcement, the charity highlighted that Corbishley’s vast experience and her proficiency in managing intricate health systems make her an ideal fit for the role. Her history of implementing large-scale systemic improvements with a focus on evidence-based and person-centered methodologies speaks volumes about her capabilities.
Corbishley steps into her new role at a pivotal moment for the industry. The United Kingdom is actively seeking to broaden treatment options for individuals at risk of gambling issues and to enhance public awareness of these challenges. Regarding her new position, Corbishley expressed:
“I am honored to join GamCare at this crucial time. Last year alone, GamCare’s National Gambling Helpline received over 55,000 calls and online chats. The charity also directly delivered more than 9,100 structured treatment sessions, referred over 7,100 individuals to other regional support providers, and 64,000 people participated in the charity’s education programs.”
She emphasized that these figures underscore the vital role GamCare plays in supporting those in need and mitigating harm across the board. Under her leadership, she is committed to ensuring that GamCare continues to provide life-changing interventions that safeguard consumers.
Corbishley’s arrival coincides with a time when GamCare has reported a significant 25% increase in calls to its gambling helpline, highlighting the escalating need for additional resources to tackle gambling-related harm.
Furthermore, GamCare has previously advocated for a statutory levy that would allocate a portion of gambling companies’ revenue towards responsible gambling initiatives, covering the costs of research, treatment, and other related measures.
An Experienced Health Professional Leading Responsible Gambling Efforts
GamCare has been able to identify specific trends in problem gambling, such as the surge in incidents during the Christmas holidays. With Corbishley at the helm, these and other issues will be addressed as GamCare continues to develop new insights.
Margot Daly, Chair of the Board, also welcomed Corbishley’s appointment, praising her leadership in various prominent health organizations across the country.
“I look forward to working with Victoria as we continue to expand GamCare’s impact and ensure our services remain responsive to the needs of those we support,” Daly concluded.
