Industry Veteran Joins Kalshi

  • A seasoned expert in the gaming and betting industry, credited with advancing the post-PASPA era, has joined Kalshi.
  • Sara Slane, formerly a Senior Vice President of Public Affairs at the American Gaming Association (AGA), played a pivotal role in convincing leagues and teams to embrace sports betting.
  • She aims to enhance understanding of prediction markets and advocate for their legitimacy as platforms.

Despite facing numerous legal hurdles, Kalshi continues its hiring momentum by welcoming the highly experienced Sara Slane as the new Head of Corporate Development.

Slane Poised to Lead Kalshi’s Sports Endeavors with a Focus on Regulatory Compliance

Sara Slane is a trailblazer in the sports betting arena, having previously held the role of Senior Vice President of Public Affairs at the American Gaming Association (AGA) before founding her own consultancy in 2019.

Following the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) decision to overturn the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA), Slane was instrumental in persuading sports leagues and organizations that sports betting would not compromise their operations, facilitating the federal legalization of sports gambling.

Slane’s expertise comes at a crucial point for Kalshi, which is contending with regulatory challenges from gambling authorities seeking to halt its operations, asserting that Kalshi falls under their regulatory purview.

She will collaborate directly with Co-Founder & CEO Tarek Mansour to boost awareness about the operations of prediction markets like Kalshi. Slane remarked, ‘There is a lot of misinformation out there.’

Slane has openly praised Kalshi’s achievements and contributions thus far. In a social media post, she noted that Kalshi has spent over three years in direct engagement with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission to establish the first fully-regulated prediction market in the United States.

‘This perspective shifted when I began consulting for Kalshi a few months ago. In my career, I have never encountered a company with Kalshi’s unique blend of bold vision, exceptional founders, unwavering commitment to regulatory compliance, and phenomenal growth,’ she stated, further underscoring the company’s credentials.

Slane’s Proven Expertise in Leading Organizations Toward Innovation

In an official statement, Tarek Mansour lauded Slane’s impressive track record, acknowledging her significant accomplishments in sports betting and gaming, including her role in overturning PASPA and helping leagues and teams capitalize on the newly created sports betting opportunities.

Mansour indicated that Kalshi is focused on expanding its sports business and forming partnerships with operators, leagues, and teams, a venture that will undoubtedly benefit from Slane’s expertise.

Nevertheless, states like Maryland and Ohio continue to assert that Kalshi’s offerings fall under the jurisdiction of state gambling regulators.

Kalshi has demonstrated a solid history of engaging with regulators, challenging the CFTC, and successfully launching political prediction markets in time for the November election. The company now faces similar challenges from regulators in Nevada and New Jersey, in what may become pivotal legal battles.
