VGCCC Appoints New CEO Amid Regulatory Changes

The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission has recently appointed a new Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization during a period of significant changes in gambling laws and regulations both in Victoria and across Australia.
VGCCC Welcomes New Leadership
Amid ongoing discussions surrounding issues such as taxation and the proliferation of slot machines nationwide, regulators are actively working to implement measures that prioritize consumer protection and player safety.
The VGCCC has chosen Suzy Neilan, a seasoned leader with over two decades of senior executive experience, to helm the commission. Neilan brings a wealth of knowledge from both the private and public sectors. Most recently, she served at the Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) for three and a half years.
VGCCC Chair Chris O’Neill expressed enthusiasm about Neilan’s appointment, emphasizing the value her expertise will bring to the commission. O’Neill commented:
‘As the VGCCC embarks on the next phase of its transformation program initiated three years ago, Suzy’s experience in digital and technology transformation, as well as her comprehensive understanding of education, enforcement, and compliance, will ensure the commission remains well-equipped to tackle future challenges. Her leadership will help maintain the integrity, safety, and fairness of the gambling industry.’
Neilan’s arrival is timely as the VGCCC seeks to develop a regulatory framework that directly benefits the residents of Victoria, making her an ideal choice for this role.
She will be succeeding Annette Kimmitt, who has been instrumental in guiding the commission through a period of significant transformation and a shift in overall focus and operational practices.
An Experienced Leader Across Sectors
Neilan is set to assume her role as the head of the VGCCC on April 1, 2025. This transition period will provide her with ample time to familiarize herself with the position and to champion consumer-focused initiatives effectively.
Throughout her career, Neilan has held various roles in organizations like:
- Victorian Building Authority
- Infringement Management Enforcement Services at Tenix Solutions
- Department of Justice
Her extensive background uniquely positions her to navigate the complexities of gaming regulation and to contribute to the development of a strong regulatory framework.
